1955 Christopher Cockerell patented the design for his hovercraft.

1967 Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones had a nine-month jail
sentence overturned at the Court of Appeal in London.
1969 Simultaneous bomb explosions in Milan and Rome left at least 27
people dead and 100 injured.
1975 A six-day siege ended peacefully in Balcombe Street London
after four IRA gunmen freed their hostages and gave themselves up to
police.
1988 35 people died and 100 others were injured after three trains
were involved in a collision in Clapham, south London.
