1984 Police and Customs in Essex seize Britain's biggest ever haul
of cannabis made in a single raid on a schooner, moored in the
village of North Fambridge on the River Crouch in Essex.
1994 The bodies of 48 members of a religious cult are discovered in
the village of Cheiry, by Swiss police after an apparent mass
suicide.
1999 Two commuter trains collided at Ladbroke Grove, west London
causing the deaths of at least 50 people.
2000 Opposition supporters stormed the Yugoslav parliament building
and proclaimed Vojislav Kostunica as the new president.
