the Berkshire town of Hungerford. He later turned his gun on himself
and was found dead inside the school by police.

1991 President Gorbachev of Russia was toppled as leader in a
bloodless coup as Communist hardliners took over.
2003 A massive bomb wrecked the United Nations headquarters in
Baghdad, killing at least 17 people including the UN's chief envoy
to Iraq.
